Advantages of Faux Wood Blinds
Of all the window treatment options, venetian blinds offer an excellent solution to several
problems. Window blinds can provide privacy while at the same time allowing light, and are
much less susceptible to damage from sunlight than are window treatment alternatives made from
fabric. Wood venetian blinds offer the additional advantages of being sturdier than normal
venetian blinds, which are typically made of metal or vinyl. And faux wooden venetian blinds
combine the advantage of wood window blinds with greater resistance to moisture and damage in
high-traffic areas. Another advantage of wood blinds is that the sturdier the slats, the
fewer "ladders" are needed. Ladders are the support system of strings or ribbons that tie the
blinds together so that they work in harmony. Many people don't like the visual effect of the
multiple strings that are required by flimsy blinds, and this can be avoided by the use of
sturdier wood blinds. The use of wood for window treatments also extends your design
options. Rather than coordinate fabric, wood or faux wood window blinds can resemble a variety
of natural or stained wood colors. This can provide a high-quality furniture effect, or
augment a natural earth-toned color scheme. Faux wood blinds can be matched to furniture
finishes, or used as a contrast to modern metal or high-gloss decors. Wooden blinds can be
subject to water damage, but faux wood blinds have the water-resistant advantages of vinyl
blinds. Indeed, many faux wood blinds are made from vinyl or other synthetics, though some
also have a certain amount of wood content. When choosing your wood blinds, decide whether
you want to buy a stock size or a custom size. Many windows are standard sizes and it is often
possible to find faux wood blinds that fit your window's dimensions. Another alternative is to
outside-mount the blinds, in front of the window instead of inside the frame; this gives a bit
more flexibility rather than requiring a precise measurement. Window blinds can also be
adjusted for length. If you have a short window, rather than have a clunky cluster of excess
slats at the bottom, it is usually possible to remove some of the slats so that the blinds
have a more custom appearance. Price is, of course, another important consideration in faux
wood blinds. Faux wood blinds can be considerably more reasonable than true wooden blinds. In
addition, their durability and resistance to moisture damage may let you amortize their cost
over a longer life span. This pertains, however, to indoor usage; unlike shutters, neither
wooden blinds nor faux wooden blinds are designed for exterior uses. Take a look at the many
